If you find that you need an object that is not available in the AutoShapes menus, you can access additional shapes by choosing More AutoShapes, located at the bottom of the AutoShapes menu. When you click this option, Word opens the Clip Art task pane, shown in Figure 12-11. If you don t see the additional shapes, you might first need to click Organize Clips.

The main difference between the More AutoShapes objects and standard clip art is that you can more easily cus tomize and format the AutoShapes as drawing objects than you can most clip art. Tip Integrating clip art into drawings In addition to the clip art items associated with the More AutoShapes option, you can add any other clip art item to a drawing. Most likely, you ll want your drawings to be displayed in color rather than in black, white, and shades of gray. In Word, you can colorize your lines and fill objects using standard and custom colors, including a full range of gray shades. You can also customize your shapes by using fill effects to insert multicolor gradient blends, textures, and pictures. Note

When you use colors, keep in mind how your document will be displayed and printed. If your document will always be displayed in electronic form or printed on high-quality paper with four colors, you won t have to worry too much about color reproduction. On the other hand, if your document will be printed on a black-and-white printer (even if it s also viewed online) or on colored paper, you ll want to make sure that the colors you use in your drawings create adequate contrast; otherwise, your drawings might print as indiscernible blobs.
