QR Code, Micro QR Code

What is QR Code, Micro QR Code
QR Code, developed by DENSO WAVE, is a kind of matrix barcode. Just like other 1D or 2D barcode, QR Code has maximum store capabilities. Besides, QR Code has high reliabilities, high speed scan and small printout size. It is capable of handling other characters, like Kanji, Greek, Arabic, etc. Now, the QR Code has been used in many fields: manufacturing, logistics, marketing, etc.
Micro QR Code is a variant of QR Code 2005. Compared with other regular QR Codes, it has only one position detection pattern which reduces the barcode size so that it can be used to applications where the space for barcode image is severely restricted.

QR Code, Micro QR Code Encoding Data & Length

Developed as alpha-numeric 2D/Matrix barcode, QR Code is capable of encoding:
  • Numeric data (QR Code: Max. 7089 characters; Micro QR Code: Max. 35 characters)
  • Alphanumeric data (QR Code: Max. 4296 characters; Micro QR Code: Max. 21 characters)
  • Byte data (QR Code: Max. 2953 characters; Micro QR Code: Max. 15 characters)
  • Kanji characters (QR Code: Max. 1817 characters; Micro QR Code: Max. 9 characters)

QR Code, Micro QR Code Structure & Format Mode (Symbol Sizes)

QR Code can be divided into 40 versions, commencing with 21 x 21 modules up to 177 x 177 modules, with 4 modules increasing in each side.
Micro QR Code can be divided into 4 versions, ranging from 11 x 11 modules to 17 x 17 modules, adding 2 modules in each side.
A QR Code barcode consists of:
  • Timing pattern
  • Separator
  • Format Information
  • Version Information
  • Data characters
  • Finder pattern
  • Alignment pattern
  • Quiet zone

Structure Append

In QR code, Structured Append means to split a data document to represent sequence of several QR code symbols (divided up to 16) and all the symbols can be read a reconstructed in a correct sequence vice versa.

Error Correction Level

QR Code has four Error Correction levels:
  • Level L: 7%
  • Level M: 15%
  • Level Q: 25%
  • Level H: 30% (except for Micro QR Code)

Extended Channel Interpretations

QR Code is capable of encoding character sets other than default encoding set, that is to say, it can handle any types of character, such as Arabic, Greek, Kanji characters etc., and other data interpretation or other industry-specific requirements to be encoded.
