What is JPEG2000?

JPEG2000 is an image compression standard based on wavelet transformation, created by Joint Photographic Experts Group committee in 2000 as an enhanced version of JPEG and often using ".jp2" as the file name suffix. Since created, JPEG2000 has been considered as the next generation image compression standard and replace JPEG compression.

Compared with JPEG, JPEG2000 has a higher compression ratio than JPEG and supports both lossy and lossless data compression, may be that is why JPEG2000 can be applied in traditional JPEG fields, like scanner, digital devices, and some emerging fields, such as Network transmission, Wireless communication and more.
